I have the mother in law from hell. I swore when I became a mother in law that I would never do to another woman the things my mother in law has done me. I have never had problems with my oldest sons wife. We get along wonderfully. My youngest son married approximately 3 years ago. He became the stepfather to a precious little girl. I loved them both from the very beginning. She seemed to love me. But, slowly, things began to change. She will take things that I say when we are having a conversation and totally make it into something different. She refused to allow me to keep my baby grandson until he was almost 1 year old unless I came to their house, and she is distant. I feel like I am walking through a land mine. Her sister was very sick recently and I asked how she was doing. She gave me 1 word answers to almost all my questions, then turned around and talked at length to my mother and my sister. I love her and I never want to hurt her. I never expected that I would be hurt like this. The thing is I have racked my brain trying to figure out what I did. What can I do to turn this relation around.

Sometimes as nice as we are we just don't click with some people. I know you'd love to get along better, but be patient with this younger woman and be nice and respectful and don't take her behavior personally, just slowly get to know her better. You never know why people are the way they are, they just are. Be patient and learn.
