    Yeast in Right ear
Is there anything other than ear drops to treat yeast in ears? We have a 6 month old female lab with recurrent yeast in her right ear only. We clean her ear every other day but she hates it. Thank you for any help.

PPlse. See your vet. My vet gave me an ointment, that you put in the infected ear & lightly massaged in. It seemed to be soothing, so my dog did not mind.

If her infection is very deep, it might be better if the vet knocks her out to do a deep cleaning. It has been my experience, having labs all my life, that they are very prone to this problem.

This has been confirmed by your Vet via, smear, culture, biopsy that indeed it is yeast? That question is the answer to many possible treatments and proper medications. Yeast happily live on most normal skin and in ears and anal glands. To get a yeast infection, conditions on the skin surface have to change to favor the proliferation of the yeasts. The yeasts in small normal numbers are harmless but when the yeasts are present in large numbers, disease results. Malessezia dermatitis is the medical term for it. If in fact it was confirmed yeast let me know I will list some topical an oral meds to ask your vet about.
