Is this almost over

I have a few family members living in my home. It has only been a little over a month and agreements were not met. No rent paid because other obligations came up so I was asked to wait for a month. This person has a reputation of not paying anyone and I guess I thought it would be different. They are causing problems, not contributing with food or bills, doing as little as possible. I gave them a notice of eviction yesterday that they had 2 weeks to get out or I was going through the courts. I have spoken to the courts and if they do not leave I have to file a motion which will turn into a judgment. Can I not change the locks until the courts are invloved and the eviction is completed. The police have told me I cannot kick them out and need to go through the courts... this really sucks. To top it off they are blabbing their mouths to my neighbor about everything going on. It is amazing you try and help someone out and you get screwed in the end. I feel bad kicking them out but I cannot take care or support anyone. There attitudue is will you are family and you should not kick us out.

Has anyone told you why you can not change the locks? They aren't paying rent and there is no agreement in place, so essentially aren't they guests?
Is there more to it than what you have posted? I just don't know why you couldn't send them packing - why do you need to go to court?

No nothing more than that. The courts and police have told me I cannot do that because they are considered a tenant and they need to go through the eviction process. There mail is being forwarded to my house... it is a mess. No one is talking and uncomfortable to be there period.

If there is nothing in writing and no money has been paid - I don't know how they could be considered as tenants.
Maybe I am missing something or not understanding something here - but if you have asked them to leave and then they don't - would they not be trespassing? And you would be free to change your locks.

Like I said - I am getting tripped up on the fact that there is no lease agreement and no money has changed hands. I just don't know how you could consider them tenants - they sound more like guests.

Yes since there mail is at my house and the agreement was for them to live there and pay rent I have to go through the correct steps and really cannot do anything about it. So next Monday I need to go to the courthouse and file the motion.
