You probably don't have the drivers for your audio card installed. Check your documentation to find out what card/chipset you have or go to the manufacturer's website for your model.

As far as I know there is no audio card. Went to website can't help me. Speakers were working until xp was installed two days ago. Was working fine with windows 2000 but then system crashed so I installed xp.

So the sound is from a chipset installed on your motherboard. You'll still need the drivers for that. Often you get a CD that comes with the computer that has all the drivers needed for the chipsets on the motherboard.

LOL, I see the problem. I do tech support on the side and in this case I would open up the case, find the chipset and read the make and model number then go out on the web and get the drivers. Perhaps you have a local 'geeky' friend that could do this for you?

There are also some free(?) programs that can scan your hardware and report back the details of your sound device. Maybe one of the other members here can help with finding some a program for you. Of course you may not feel comfortable doing all that so it's back to the above idea.
