    Why don't I have a period?
I am 24 years old and haven't had a period in over a year. Should I be concerned?

Have you not been to the doctor?

    Are you sexually active?

Yes, you should most certainly make a doctor's appointment. You need to find out what is going on.

Any doctor will say if you have not had a period in over a year that it is very important that you go to the doctor... This can be a health problem or a disease causing this. Are you overweight, underweight? This can cause this as well and being just plain out un-healthy so to speak can cause ab normal or absent periods. When you have a healthy period you know that everything is okay and not having a period is NOT normal, epsecially for over a year. I have skipped for about 3-4 months once in a while but my doctor has told me that if I skip for over 6 months that they will have to check and see what it is. Thyroid problems also cause no periods or late periods. Have you gained a lot of weight? Feel tired a lot? Have brittle hair and nails? You need to have a pelvic ultrasound and a pap smear which will tell you what is going on with you. Also birth control pills can help you have a normal period again but you really need to talk with your doctor because there is several reasons for an absent period but it is not normal. You also cannot get pregnant if you are not having your periods because you are not ovuating and this is not healthy either. You can tell if you are healthy or not! Start exercizing and eat healthy and this can help promote a healthy period but you also need to see your docotr because you may have something else going on. I gained a lot of weight and had an absent period for 6 months and not that I am taking better care of myself everything is fine.
