I am in a 3 unit condominium building. We are not getting any pressure from the city. We have a pump which, to the best of my knowledge, has never been used. Is it possible, somehow, that we let out all the pressue that is generally in the pipes and need to run the pump? If we run the pump what PSI should we be at for a 4 story building with a 2.5 inch water pipe coming into the bldg? It is currently reading about 25psi. I was running the pump on auto (for about 5 min) and it was getting to 26psi but it was generating a lot of heat. Is this normal? I don't mind running the pump for an extended amount of time but the heat generated from the pump seemed problematic.

Any adivice is greatly appreciated

You have me confused. If the water main pressure in from the street is only 25 PSI how did you last this long? You should have at least 40 to 50 PSI or more coming in from the street. You need to call the water department and find out what they're going to do about your low pressure situation. It should be on them and not you. As for the pump, if you ran it for 5 minutes and only raised the pressure by one pound then you're going to need a pump man. Check with the water company and let me know what they said. Regards, Tom
