    My Husband wants to adopt my 3year old daughter
    Iwas woundering? I just got married. and my husband would like to adopt my daughter. Her real dad.. is not in the pic and does not do anything to help support her or anything. My Husband has been her dad since the dayshe was born.sheis all he knows as dad. I would like for my husband name to be put on the birh certifacte and his last name put on her is that possible??

    Please let me know what I would have to do.

    You need to get an attorney, first of all. Bio-dad will need to relinquish his rights, then you file a petition for a stepparent adoption. My brother-in-law adopted my nephew this way and it all went quite smoothly since the bio-dad was eager to sign those papers.

    Yes, you will need an attorney, they will file an adoption paper work, send papers to the ex for him to sign over his rights, and it is all filed in court
