Condensation pump connected into sewer drain - risks?
We have had a steam generator with a auto drain feature installed in our basement for a steam shower. Contractor failed to install a floor drain prior to build out. As a work around, he installed a condensation pump (to handle the drainage from the auto flush feature) which was then connected into one of the interior drain pipes for the house. We are worried about sewer back up from this connection. Is this a valid concern? Should we have some sort of trap installed?

If there is no trap installed on the condensate drain then you have a direct open connection between your home and the sewer. Also in my area it's against code to discharge, condensate lines, rain water runoff, sump pumps or water softener discharge into the sewer. Regards, Tom

Condensation pump [ 3 Answers ]

I need to install a pump for condensation for my central air unit/furnace, because there is not a drain for it to dump into. The pump would have to be strong enough to pump the water overhead and across 15 feet to dump into a sink. The condensation tube is about 3-4 feet high coming out of the...

Another Condensation drain question. [ 3 Answers ]

This may seem like an odd question but I have noticed that the water coming out of the condensation line that leads from our indoor lennox air handler has rust in it. Is this normal? I know it comes from the water dripping off the evaperator coils, but should they or something else in there be...
