    How much can they take?
Two weeks ago my personal as well as 2 joint checking accounts were garnished of the full balance in each of them. The amount taken is nearly 3 times what the original debt was. Two weeks later it happened again. Money was taken out of 2 of the 3 accounts my name is on and I have no idea what debt its for. This $300 debt has cost me at least $1200 and I'm not sure that they're done. They took every penny I had and also some that wasn't mine alone. What should I do, who do I call and isn't there a limit as to how much they can take?

    Any advise would be appreciated.

Do you live in the US? If so, I found a very informative website that should help you out. Go to: Debt - State Laws. It also tells you who you can complain to.

I hope this all gets sorted out for you quickly! In the meantime, don't put any money in those accounts!

First to have your checking or savings attached ( froze, garnished) there had to be a judgement, you would have been served court papers and notified of the judgement.

The bank will have a copy of a judgement and attachment order, you can ask to see it. But if the original debt was 300, with late charges, added every month, with legal fees of 1000 or 2000 maybe for the judgement, there is no telling what the total amount of a debt could be. You can contact this debtor , contact the court with the judgement and findout.
