    Fighting, fighting and more fighting and maybe a lot of death... no, do you mean what jobs during the civil war era. I would think there would be blacksmiths, women who took in washing, there would be house builders, there would be butchers, candlestick makers, or dressmakers. They had stores just as we do, albeit, a little bit smaller but anyone who had money had to buy something.
