    Becoming a notary in NJ
I am applying to become a notary in New Jersey. I am surprised to discover that there is no exam. The state wants a legislator's signature and my statement that I have committed no crimes, but otherwise I pay a fee and that's all.

Does this make sense? Shouldn't a notary know what he or she is doing? Do other states require an exam?

Well, at least I am buying a book from one of the many notary education vendors.
