If you are looking at the broad spectrum and want to include different areas of skills, you can check out those kinds of books at your local children's library.
Here are a couple of freebie sites that will give you plenty of ideas of what to do with a three year old. You want to have fun and yet make it worthwhile and exciting for him. You want to inspire his creativity and sense of wonder. But most of all, for him to enjoy his learning.

I know around my area, the public library has events going on throughout the week... they put on plays, puppet shows, and read books to the children. My daughter loves it! Check around the area and see if there's anything like that near you. It's not only entertainment but it's also educational.

You can sit and let him crawl all over you, you can take him outside and look for bugs, you can let him go crazy with the garden hose, you can read him loads and loads of books, you can color in books together, you can let him actually tell you what would be fun to him, there are sop many endless possibilities... talk to him and listen to him, make him feel respected and you care about what he is saying.

Oh gosh! What doesn't entertain a 3 year old? My son is almost 3. He loves to ride a bike, play with play-doh, play with trucks and trains, do large wooden puzzles, blow bubbles, swing and slide or anything outdoors. He loves chasing people around. Finger-painting is fun too. Oh, and here is a weird suggestion that my son loves... tie a few helium balloons to something down low, and let him hit them with a swimming pool noodle (cut in half). They just love to see the balloon pop back up!
