    Bursting of GI pipes
    Please tell me that is there any formula, by virtue of which I can calculate the minimum pressure required to burst a GI pipe (for home use)?


    Else please tell me the minimum pressure required to burst a GI pipe of 1" dia used at home.

    Most of the pipe for residential use is what is called schedule 40 and rated for 150 psi. beyond any pressure it should ever have in a residential water system. Usually it will stand much more. I have occasionally seem short lengths and fitting use in hydraulic systems where the pressure may be a thousand or more psi.

    Edited to say that using galvanized or other schedule 40 pipe in a high pressure hydraulic system is a risky misuse use. Somebody could get hurt.

    This kind of data should be available in the manufacturer's specifications of the piping. There is no easy formula for it, as different manufacturers may use slightly different materials.
