In the annals of Navy Victories .the Battle of Midway ranks near the top .It compares with the defeat of the Spanish Armada ;and Lord Admiral Horatio Nelson crossing the T in the battle of Trafalgar

June 4 1942 the Japanese fleet controlled the Pacific waves until 10:22 AM . Them dive bombers from USS Enterprise and Yorktown destroyed the Japanese carrier fleet . Had this been a Brit victory there would be monuments to Admiral Nimitz and countless novels ,songs ;movies praising the achievement .

Great observation. Midway was a near miracle. Just a fifteen or so minutes difference at the moment of the dive bomber attack would have made a big difference.

One note. Nelson did not cross the T at Trafalgar. He divided his fleet into two lines of attack and split the French/Spanish fleet into three pieces. If anything, the enemy attempted to cross his T. By crossing the French line, he was able to use both broadsides down the length of the Frence ships. It was classic naval tactics for that time. It would have been a poor decision in WW2.


A classic example of crossing the T is what Oldendorf did to the Japanese at Leyte Gulf, or what the Japanese did to the Russkies at Tsushima.
