It is said so often by progressives who want to repeal the 2nd Amendment that it sounds like a single word.

We now have in the last few years ;and indeed throughout history ,the evidence that an armed citizenry is the best defense a nation has.

Take some examples from the unprovoked terrorist attack on Israel. The kids dancing were not armed . They were slaughtered or are now held hostage.

But Israel does allow it's citizens to be armed ;well at least some of them . The ones who were fought back .

The Hamas was no match for an intrepid 25-year-old Israeli woman — who saved an entire kibbutz from harm by leading a group of residents to kill more than two dozen advancing terrorists, including five she slaughtered herself.

Hadar and Itay Berdychivsky were armed with side arms . They hid their twin babies and then fought the terrorists killing 7 before they were gunned down by terrorists with semi-automatic arms. Imagine that they might be alive today if they were similarly armed.

Israel has restrictive gun laws. I suspect that will change.

Ukraine also has restrictive gun laws. But when the threat of Russian attack happened ,suddenly the government encouraged the population to arm themselves and train on the use of weapons . A day late as they say.

The Brits started do disarm their population at the beginning of the 20th century. Between 1903 to 1937 ,a series of laws were passed . Then WWII came and there was a gap until 1968 where no such laws were passed.

Dunkirk happened and although the Brits were successful in the evacuation of their troops ,most of their heavy weapons were left behind in France .

The citizens of the country were disarmed already. Americans understood the predicament and started a campaign to send personal weapons to our cousins across the pond .

The November 1940 issue of American Rifleman that read “British Civilians, undergoing nightly air raids, are in desperate need of Firearms “If you possess any of these articles you can aid in the battle of Britain by sending these materials to American Committee for Defense of British Homes.”
