High School Debate competitions
Most High Schools have debate clubs . Students travel to other schools and have debates with students from other schools . The more talented ones sometimes goes to regional and even national tournaments .
So how is a student to succeed in these debates ? Increasingly it is the politically correct and the woke students who do the best . The reality is that the odds are almost none if they espouse ideas that the judges of the debates don't agree with .
Let's say I was a student and wanted to support the proposition that capitalism is the best economic model and that it is the best means to reduce poverty .
And let's say the debate judge that day is Lila Lavender .
So I go to Lila's 'Tabroom' at the National Speech and Debate Association . This is what she posts
- I will never vote for rightest capitalist-imperialist positions/arguments. For example: capitalism good, neoliberalism good, imperialist war good, fascism good, bourgeois (like US) nationalism, normalizing Israel or Zionism, US white fascist policing good, etc.Tabroom.com
Other judges openly say they will disqualify students who refer to "illegal" immigrants . Maybe you don't want to bring it up when Shubham Gupta or Kriti Sharmais the judge
“ I would hope I wouldn't have to say this, but given our current political climate I have no choice: if you are discussing immigrants in round and describe the PERSON as "illegal," I will immediately stop the round, give you the loss with low speaks, give you a stern lecture, and then talk to your coach. Not only is describing a person as illegal dehumanizing, it's also inaccurate, and with a large portion of the debate field being immigrants or children of immigrants, I will not have you making the debate space unsafe."

Things That Will Cause You To Automatically Lose
- Any kind of harassment or intentional 'isms'
- Misgendering someone repeatedly
- Referring to undocumented immigrants as "illegals"
- Clipping cards, manufacturing evidence, or otherwise cheating

It is all part of the indoctrination . Once students have it hammered home enough times that to succeed they have to toe the line ,they adjust their views towards the line of least resistance and most reward .
What we are creating is a nation of Star Trek Borg (cyborgs in a bee hive like collective )and not a nation of free thinkers .

It's one reason I'm glad to live in Mississippi. That wickedness is much less likely to happen here. We must begin to "hammer home" to our young people in church, or even conservative, rational young people outside of church, that they must be courageous and not "toe the line".

And forget what Jesus taught.

Was a good article. You still haven't said what part of the teachings of Christ you are suggesting is being violated in this statement.

Does suggesting that a completely innocent person was a, " stupid, clueless, poorly educated, narrow-minded" woman, probably because she had the misfortune of being white, fall under that category??? Or have you rolled that comment back and I just didn't notice?

Can you not see that you are the only one here who has done what you are accusing others of? Note the question below. I have reposted it for simplicity sake.

If you want to point out some statement of mine that was a problem, we can discuss it, but such a vague statement as, "All of them," is hard to respond to.

I am wondering the same thing which is why I asked (so far fruitlessly) for something specific.

"Hammer home"??? Courageous about what??? Toe what line??? Sounds very punitive.

1. emphasize
2. courageous about what is right
3. do not believe ideas not of God
Strange how quick you were to jump to judgment before you even understood what I was referring to. Perhaps it would be wise in the future to ask a few questions FIRST before getting all wound up. BTW, it's not punitive at all, and yet being punitive is very much within the words of Christ.

Doesn't sound like Jesus talking. That definitely isn't the way to do it. If anyone had talked to me like that when I was young, I would have tuned him out and walked away.

So no one ever emphasized doing what's right, encouraged you to be courageous, and to not be led away by ungodly ideas? Well, why do I find that to be believable?

Oh yes. My wonderful (Lutheran) parents did. He was a pastor and she was a homemaker. As their firstborn, I got all their loving attention and spiritual support before a brother showed up four years later.

One way or the other, I'm glad you finally agree with me. I suggested we emphasize doing what's right, being courageous about what is right, and to not believe ideas not of God. As it turns out, you say it's what your pastor/father taught you, so you agree it needs to be done. Wonderful!! We're making progress.
