    Republican disconnect
The position of conservative Repubs regarding abortion has been that SCOTUS made a big blunder by nationalizing abortion with the Roe decision ;that it was up to the states.

When Roe was overturned conservatives applauded it and said to Dems that abortion is where it should be ;decided by states .

So then why are Repubs like Marco Rubio ;who was one of the voices that championed state regulation of abortion suddenly supporting the ill timed Lindsey Graham Federal Ban on abortions after the first trimester ?

This is what Rubio said in an interview a few weeks ago:

"All the Supreme Court has said is that now that debate is not going to happen in Washington, where it wasn't happening at all because of Roe v. Wade
," ... "Now that decision has to be made at the state level. And the state legislature will weigh in. Florida has an abortion law; it cuts it off at 15 weeks. Every state will have its own law."

"I think that right now, this issue is appropriately before the states," he said. "That's where it always should have been, that's where it is now, and I think that's where it will be for the foreseeable future. We don't have the votes now or anytime in the near future for that, and frankly, I think this issue is better decided at the state level at this point, because as I see it playing out, every state will now—people will have more influence over their state legislature than they do over Congress and certainly over the Supreme Court."

He went from that position on August 28 to being a co-sponsor of the Graham bill today.

Rubio co-sponsors Graham’s federal abortion ban at 15 weeks (orlandosentinel.com)

Graham justifies the Federal regulation on broad progressive liberal (and unconstitutional) definitions of the Commerce Clause, even as he opposes plans by the Dems to use the same clause to justify forcing states to permit abortions .

Justice Scalia speaking about the Roe decision said that the decision "destroyed the compromises of the past, rendered compromise impossible for the future, and required the entire issue to be resolved uniformly, at the national level." (Planned Parenthood of Pa. v Casey) .

He would object to Graham's bill for the same reason.
