Wiring a Braeburn thermostat on a trane HP
Hi,I have a Trane HP.It is a package unit(one piece heat and cool).I am trying to wire up a Braeburn model 3000 thermostat to it.The wiring diagrams do not help. The trane is a 3 ton unit with heat strips. The wiring diagram on it shows typical wiring for a seven wire connection to thermostat. The thermostat wiring diagrams do not convert correctly. They list 3,4,and 5 wire connections. What am I missing(besides my brain).Something has to cross or perform dual duty.

Is your new thermostat designed for heat pumps? Most heat pumps require a minimum of four wires, R,Y,O,G. Depending on what you have for electric heat strips and how you want to control them you will also need a W & possibly a W1 & W2. Your new thermostat may also require a C connection to supply it with 24 volts.

Looks like it should work after all. If it is a 3000 series. Here is the link.

You can look at the braeburn site for more info.

Hi,Thanks for the response.I saw this at the breaburn site.Upon further digging the schematic you see shows that it is wired for dual transformers(one for heating and one for cooling).I only have one main transformer. My system is a model number WCM042F100BH.The Trane site does not even recognize this number.Almost all of the systems they list are X series.I have sent an email to support, but no replys. My wiring schematic for the hp shows most of the wires going through the defrost control. So now that I have a top of the line ac,I guess I now need a more expensive thermostat. Thanks again for the reply.

Using the braeburn thermostat you have won't allow you yo use the heat strips as a 2nd stage heat supply or as emergency back up heat. You'll need one with two stages of heat control. This thermostat is for single stage heat pumps with no second source of heat.

Follow the directions in the instructions that came with the new thermostat. There is no other way but the correct way and that is by the instructions.
