    Windows ME Notebook Reinstall Problems
Several years ago I upgraded my Dell Latitude LM notebook from Windows 95 to Windows ME. Everything went fine. I have used the notebook for several years operating on Windows ME with no problems. Well, as good as could be expected considering it was Windows ME. Last week, for a number of reasons, I had to reformat and repartition the hard drive. I re-installed Windows ME. Now I have only a 16 color palette instead of the much fuller color palette that I had 2 weeks ago. I also do not have the same screen resolution that I had 2 weeks ago either. The notebook has the same Windows ME now that it had 2 weeks ago, but some major headaches are present that did not exist before. Also, I have installed all available Windows ME and IE upgrades that are currently available. Is there any way I can address and improve on the color palette and screen resolution problems? Presently, the screen resolution is very poor, resembling that of operating the system in Safe Mode; i.e.. Very grainy. Any comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I will assume that you checked your options and you are at the highest setting presently for screen size and colors.
My guess would be that if you were to look in the Control Panel, you would see some form of a Generic Video Adapter installed. You need to install the correct video adapter and once you do you will be able to get any updates if available and then it will allow you to run in higher resoloution. If it doesn't detect automatically you may have to do some research to determine what the correct adapter type is. I wouls suggest going to Dells website and entering you model info. This should give you a breakdown of what you have installed. Once you make that match in your Harware list then you can update the driver.

    Good Luck,
