Congrats to the Aussie's war on woke college degrees
No more government funding of students taking surfing 101 . The Aussies are taking a step that the US Government should also adopt . No longer will they fund frivilous degrees like gender studies . They will redirect the education funds to programs where there is a shortage of graduates for skills that are needed . Fees in those subjects will be lowered, and the change funded through increased fees for students following courses where there is a less obvious need for qualified people. Dan Tehran the Education Minister said :Australia will need more educators, more health professionals and more engineers, and that is why we are sending a price signal to encourage people to study in areas of expected employment growth.”
Those who choose to study “in areas of expected employment growth” will pay less for their degree. Tehan will slash university fees for courses like nursing, agriculture, maths, science and information technology.
Nearly 40,000 places will be added. But fees for courses like creative arts, communications, history, economics, politics, society and culture will in some cases more than double.

Old news actually, the university sector has suffered substantial downturn because of CV19 and the absence of overseas students, thus a dose of reality, if we are taking about funding local students then they damn well had better perform. The other aspect of this is migration is down and will stay down so all those overseas "experts" have dried up leaving the field open to locals
