I am five almost six months pregnant. I dated a 22 yr old military guy for three months found out I was pregnant and we broke things off. However he promised he would be a father to the child until he got back together with his ex. He wanted to give me money monthly and not go through court because he thought that would make him look like a bad father to have to pay child support. However when I asked him to help with paying for the furniture he said he didn't have the money because he just brought a brand new suv. I then knew I would have to go through court to get anything from him, so I left him a message to see if he would be willing to take a blood test and do child support and have to this day received no response. We both know this is his baby and he has admitted to that, but now I'm sure he'll say otherwise. I am worried he will be deployed before the baby is born and then I will have nothing to go buy for child support. Is there anyway I can get blood samples now and find out from the military when his deployment will be. Someone told me if I reached his commander, whom I've only met once and don't know his name, that everything could be taken care of. Leagally is there anyway he can be forced to give blood now or information?

Hi,

I asked my husband who retired last year after 20 years in the Navy and he said there is nothing the commanding officer can do for you at this point. Once you get a court order or judgement, then he would be able to act. The only thing the CO could do for you at this point is give him the "right thing to do" lecture that may or may not help you.

Your best bet is to get an attorney and get a court order for a paternity test.

You will have to wait till the baby is born. And quess what a man who wants to do the right thing will allow the court to order child support since that is the right thing, the man who wants to be a con man talks the girl out of it.

But you are in luck, the military is very (and I mean very good) at making them pay support they owe, you wll get it right from his check before he gets it) Just file with the court, and he will be served where he is at, I don't know how it works exactly but I would bet the military will be sure he supplies what is needed once you have a court order.

You may get an attorney to get a blook sample now if the person is going to be deployed out of the country, but you can't sue for child support until the baby is born.

Also, if you are successful with the paternity suit your child will be eligible for medical benefits through the Tricare system once all the paperwork is done. He will need to file for an ID application (small children only have the application, not the actual ID) which will give you the access to the medical system. I think you will also get commissary benefits on behalf of the child (not exactly sure - hubby is out and about this afternoon.)

Once things are set, contact your local armed services family service center. They will explain your child's benefits.

Might I suggest that you conact your local Child Support Enforcement Office. Once the baby is born, they will go to work on your child's behalf. They will file all the paperwork needed for paternity testing and will force it to happen. No questions asked. They will make sure the paperwork is filed with the military and get the support collected through a centralized system. Most of all, don't expect overnight results. It could take a coupel of months, but it will be taken care of.
