Was it debit or credit ? If it was credit then you contact the credit card company and they send you a form to dispute the charge. You do not have to pay and no interest charge is applied until it is settled I have done it several times. Some times the person or company debiting your account runs the charge through a different business so you will not recognize the name on your statement. Your credit card company should be able to give you more info and in some cases an 800 #. As far a debit card is concerned I can not answer, the rules may be different.

As far as debit is concerned the bank should give you a form to fill out and they will report is to visa. Your card should be canceled and reissue another one only after you file a police report stating that they are not your transactions. I don't understand why the bank is not helping you with this. After the investigation and police reports are filed, the bank should put the money back in your account. This should be stated somewhere in a disclosure at your bank. Are you sure they aren't your charges. cmayko is right in saying that you can purchase something from a certain place and it will show up as a different company on your statement. For example if you purchase gas at WalMart, it will show up as Murphy USA on your statement. Also you only have 30days to report this so you need to take care of this ASAP. Make sure it's not your transactions and then go to the bank and talk to someone will help you. You can also call the number on the back of your card and tell them the situation and they should be able to tell you your rights and what you need to do.
