Did the books you have read say anything about it? Only those that have done extensive reading and the other research needed to breed quality dogs should be breeding at all. Those failing to do so, create no end of misery.

The fact that you are asking this question is of great concern to me. You should know this information prior to breeding, along with a whole slew of other information that is important. Responsible breeders make sure they do everything they can to ensure the health and well being of their dog. They know their dog's lineage and are aware of whatever hereditary problems that might occur prior to deciding to breed. In addition, they learn all they can about pregnancy and the problems that might arise so they are prepared. That is of the utmost importance prior to deciding whether to breed. Not doing so can be detrimental to the health and well being of all of them and if not done, is viewed by responsible breeders to be a very irresponsible act. There are all sorts of problems that can occur while the dog is pregnant and ESPECIALLY after the puppies are born. Since your dog is now pregnant and you are asking this simple question, I can only assume you have not done all your homework. You need to start arming yourself with knowledge NOW. Or the result could very well mean major problems that can either risk the life of your dog, and/or result in a litter of puppies that will not survive. Have you read up on Parvo virus? If not, please speak to your vet about that and read whatever you can get your hands on. That is only one of a myriad of possible problems that can occur.
