Hi,
No one will stop drinking until they, themselves, see that there is a problem.
Your friend may or may not have a problem.
If he can put down alcohol (which is anything with alcohol in it), and tell himself that will never drink alcohol again, then he doesn't have a problem.
If he can't tell himself that, then he probably does have a problem.
Normal drinkers can take it or leave it. Alcoholics cannot leave it; it is a disease.
Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) has groups all over the world; and it works if he wants it to work.
If he really does have a drinking problem, you, yourself, will NOT be able to do anything about it!!
He will have to decide for himself, if he wants to stop.
Please don't think that you will be able to change him yourself... you can't!
If you tell his parents, he will rebel against you, and anyone who says he has a problem.
If he doesn't stop drinking, please, please, make new friends, and find another boyfriend. If you don't, you will be the most miserable person in the world. The only group that can help you then will be AlaNon, groups for those involved with alcoholics.
Please do yourself a favor, and look at this site:
http://florida.ods.org/rx/topic.asp?...=1&tmp=1#pid22
It is only one of many, many devoted to Alcoholism. You can find many sites by going to
http://www.google.com , and then in the search area, type in something like "forums for alcoholics", without quotes, then click on Search.
You will find many answers from recovering alcoholics and those who don't know if they are one or not.
Best of luck,
fredg
