What steps to take when a sewer line is broke for clean up in vents.
We have and older house we bought and the cast iron pipe is missing a piece. It has corroded and is completely gone. This is allowing leakage of feces in the transit HVAC vent. I have sewer flies and poopy smell. Do I need to call an environmental place to see if the house is toxic? If so WHO??

You need a plumber to repair the cast iron with PVC. Then, general disinfect with beach, soap and hot water. I would not spray any pesticide in the HVAC ductwork. Have you ever changed a diaper and got poopy on your hands or cleaned up after a pet accident? Not toxic is it?

No, you don't need to call environmental services. As suggested above, call plumber, have him to insert new section of pipe into the void in your old sewer pipe - and problem is solved

And expect the plumber to repair the pipe, not clean up the mess that your job.
