I used to work for an auto parts store and have mix hundreds of gallons of paint. I have even restored and painted 3 cars myself and working on the 4th. I definitely would NOT use a computer to pick out a paint color! It is very deceiving. Go to a local automotive parts store (most of them mix and sell paint) and they will have piles and piles of books with actual paint chips in them. NEXT, take the book next to a window or outside because even florecent lighting will be deceiving. A lot of times they will even help you come up with your own custom mix. Check out all of the cool stuff they can put in the paint like mica, pearl, etc. Another cool product is House of Kolor's candy paints. You basically apply a base coat of color, then a tinted clear. I painted a guitar "Kandy Tangerine Metallic" once and it was really cool. The base coat was was silver and the candy coats were tinted orange. You could easily do the same with purple.
