    When it comes to artists, there are too many, and too many paintings to have a lot of info even when you have a picture of the painting.

    Basically, since you know the artists name, unless someone is a follower of his and familiar with his work, which would be like finding a needle in a haystack, the info I give you will be the same info you can find via Google.

    It sucks. I've been there. Had a painting, the artists name, and still couldn't find any info on it.

    Your very best bet is taking it to an art dealer.
