Why does the furnace make popping noises
2 questions... Why does my furnace make popping noises? I have a old Heil furnace.

Also I have a honeywell thermostat 5 years old. Replaced batteries but furnace will not get to set temperature. Been waiting 5 hrs for this. Furnace will buzz and sometimes turn on and stay on for 3-4 minutes never reaching desired temperature and sometimes furnace buzzes and does not go on... clicks and nothing happens.

It sounds like you have a few problems going on with your furnace.

    1) Possible problem with the igniter.

    2) The thermostat may be out of adjustment.

    3) Possible problem in the thermocouple.

It might be time to call in a professional and let them have a look.

I agree with cdad.. need to get a professional in... and will add possible issues with the Burners to the list

Particularly if it hasn't been serviced in the last several years.

The popping is a concern....sounds like fuel is building up and being ignited intermittently in large bursts rather than a steady burn. That can turn ugly fast.

Thank you for getting back to me. My kids and I checked the vents when furnace was on for its 4 mns and nothing is coming out of vents... no heat no cold no nothing.
Also the furnace is lighting up I see the flames.

    Maybe the blower doesn't work.

What does it mean when you say thermostat out of adjustment?

I will call someone but I'm trying to understand everything that is going on.

    Thanks
