Garbage Disposal Flywheel Stuck, Tried Usual Fixes...
I scooped out a lot of material from the Upper Chamber/Shredder Ring. I think someone put some eggshells in a few days before the problem started. I have tried the Allen wrench and I can't get the flywheel to budge. I feel like I'm going to break the housing or something. I also tried the end of long wooden spoon and no joy. Wrench or spoon has worked in the past. Suggestions?

Egg shells wouldn't cause a problem, its something else. Try a short broom handle. The handle of toilet plunger should be about the right length. Try to turn disposal backwards (clockwise).

UNPLUG Garbage Disposer. Remove rubber splash guard. Take flash light and look inside the mouth of GD. Follow the gap between the wheel and body of GD. Look carefully. Look for small pieces of bone, pit, or some non-food object that accidentally fell in. It can be very small and easy to overlook.

Wrench should have turn the wheel. Did you use pliers to help you apply more pressure on the wheel ? Wooden spoon will not turn stuck wheel. Use broom stick. This way you get better leverage. Insert it in, place it to the side of the wheel, push down as much as you can and start pushing it around. It will dislodge the object that prevents wheel from spinning.

If it continues to be frozen, chances are, rusting got to the point where GD needs to be replaced

Let me know how you did

Garbage disposal [ 5 Answers ]

I had a garbage disposal installed in my kitchen by a plumber. Sometime when we put garbage in and turn it on it shoots out the other drain and comes up into the other sink basin. My guess is that too much garbage is being put inthere at one time and shoots it across. Also, the instructions say to...
