    Floor joist or tji
    we are building a 22' x 53' addition. We would like to do clear span.
    we would like to keep to a 9 1/2 inch joist. Can we doube up on joist to give 4 x 10 or use a tji

    You would have to splice a 2X10 but not a TJI. What size are you looking at? Don't think a 9.5 will span 22 ft. Is it a gable roof? Not quite clear as to what you want the beam for, why not a truss, no beam needed. I have a 24' truss across the house, 7/12 outside, 5/12 inside.
