    Sewer gas from new toilet installation.
    I had a toilet replaced. I started noticing the smell of sewer gas. It wasn't major, but still offensive. My plumber returned put a new wax ring (one with the piece that fits into the sewer pipe) on. The problem continued, repeat of new wax ring. Left a window open for several hours to air out the room. 45 minutes after closing the window it smells as bad as ever. My plumber thought possibly the stink pipe is blocked. I find this to be a strange coincidence. Any thoughts?

    I forgot to mention, the plumber put 2 wax rings on. Not sure if that is relevant or not.

    Try to caulk around the base of the toilet

    While I agree caulking may stop the smell it could put you in a situation where major damage could happen if you get a drain pipe clogged. Without caulk sewage water will seep out from under the toilet if there is a back up, this lets you know you have a problem. If you caulk the leak can't get out and can soak into your sub floor. I would keep calling that plumber back. If he thinks the vent pipe is plugged then he should know how to unplug it, that's what plumbers do. Does this toilet bubble or gurgle when flushing?
