What should I do? Am I pregnant?
    Hello doctor,
My boyfriend and I had proteced safe sex on the 4th of January.. My periods were due on the 7th of January. We did use a condom, however during the act I suddenly felt really wet down in my vagina and for a second I thought the condom broke and it was maybe his fluid. I asked him if it broke, he said no it did not break. He said that it was my vaginal fluids only. He also said that he did not ejaculate while having sex. He had withdrawn his penis and then ejaculated outside, into the condom itself. He later on even checked if the condom had broken he said that there was no liquid oozing out of the condom and that the condom was intact. However the next day he mentioned that he realised that the condom that he had used actually expired about 2 weeks ago. I haven't got my periods till now.. I'm two days late and I'm very worried. Also I'm 18, and this was my first time. Should I be worried? Or am I overthinkinng? There was once when I got my periods 3 days late.. But that was months ago and sometime I am a day late.. I also have an application called period calender that tracks my periods and predicts it and tells me about my pregnancy chances if it is high low or medium and for the 4th of January (the day we had sex) it said that my chances were low. But we had safe sex. I'm really worried. What should I do? Am I pregnant?

The app is only a guideline and is not really accurate. So forget it.

If you had sex 3 days before your period was due, pregnancy is not likely, but not impossible. I suspect it is stress that is delaying your period. But the only thing you can do is wait it out. If you still haven't gotten a period by the 14th, then I would start using HPTs.

Please be aware that ANY time there is penile insertion there is the risk of pregnancy. You can reduce the risk, but not eliminate it. So if you don't want to get pregnant, the only sure way is keep your legs closed.

I'm asking a question on behalf of a friend. My friend had protected sex with her boyfriend on the 6th and 7th of march, on the 6th of March she realised that her periods had begun. So they had sex on the first two days of her period, the rest of the three days of her periods were normal, however today she said that she saw some kind of a cloudy milky secretion coming out of her nipples today. She had a about of tummy troubles since the last week, but she is sure that it was due to indigestion and nothing else like morning sickness or something. So Why the sudden secretion? I read up on this and saw a few reasons on why it could happen and some reasons were due to too much of stimulation or if there has been any injury on the breasts or an infection but she is afraid she's pregnant. When I shared this piece of information about the other possible reasons that's when she mentioned that during the act her boyfriend was pretty wild and her nipples felt sore the next morning and were hurting for a day. Could this be the reason? Or is she pregnant? What should be done?

Like before, you will have to wait until your next period is due to test for pregnancy. It would be too early for any symptoms.

Ant time you have sex, contraception or not, you risk pregnancy. "Safe sex" refers more to preventing sexually transmitted diseases than it does prevention of pregnancy.

Any time you have sex the chances are 50/50. It will all depend on whether you were ovulating. That isn't something I can answer.

The only way to determine pregnancy is with a urine test, blood test, ultrasound, or giving birth. No one can determine if your friend is pregnant online. There's no way to do that.

Could she be pregnant? Yes. She had sex, so pregnancy is possible. She'll have to wait, and if she misses her period, she'll have to test. If the test is negative and she misses another period, she'll have to test again, or get a blood test done. Those are her options. She will not get a reliable answer online.

You should have given your friend the same answer you were given in similar circumstances. The answer was not going to change. You have sex, pregnancy is possible. But pregnancy will not manifest itself so soon. The first sign of pregnancy is a missed period. If a period is later for a week or more, then you start taking HPTs.

Okay, but what could be the possible reason for this milky cloudy secretion from the nipples?

And also she was on her periods so she could be ovulating even then?

There could be a number of reasons for the discharge. Its impossible to diagnose remotely. But it is too soon to be due to pregnancy.

Do you not understand what a menstrual period is? The uterine wall builds up to accept a fertilized egg. If no fertilized egg becomes implanted, then the wall is flushed out. So it would be highly unlikely (almost impossible) that one would be ovulating during the period. However sperm can be very hardy and persistent. It is possible for sperm to make it through and be there when the next egg is released and fertilize that. Again, these are not likely scenarios, but not impossible ones either.

I personally know more than a handful of people that got pregnant while on their period. Yes, you can get pregnant even if you're on your period. It happens all the time.

Unless you track ovulation by using basal temperature readings, every month for at least a year, and know when you ovulate (not by using an app on your phone or anything online, but by actually physically tracking ovulation), pregnancy is possible any time you have sex. ANY TIME!
