    Post op complications of appendectomy
Hi there. I had an appendectomy about 3 weeks ago. The procedure went well and so did the recovery up until about 5 days ago when I removed my stitches. I started getting some weird abdominal cramps on Thursday last week and did not have much of an appetite and started vomitting on Friday. I went to my gp and she assured me that it is a stomach bug and gave me medication to treat it (antibiotics in case of inflammation, pills for nasea as well as pills to minimalise the cramps) and it all worked well but the cramps did not go away completely. Today (monday) I did not feel well but I took some pain medication which seemed to help but I started getting a fever. It is still not sore when I press on where the appendix has been removed. Should I be worried?

What is the exact about the number of days between the surgery and the first cramps?

Not that we can tell you much. Your doctor knows all about you and your history and we don't. We don't know your age, gender, medications if any, sexual activity, health, tendency to scar tissue, ability to heal, on and on. Your doctor suggested the most common cause of your symptoms, and if it turns out to be something else, it's your job to let him or her know. No pain at the surgery site is still significant. A new fever could noteworthy, but first take Tylenol tonight and tomorrow morning, and keep taking your temp. Then call it in to the office.

I am in no way suggesting adhesions! Appendectomy is considered the safest invasive surgery (and there's nothing 'wrong' with adhesions - some of us scar more than others). Trust in your doctor. There's no need to feel brushed off. You have to keep leaving messages if there are symptoms.
