    Shingles
I am immunosuppressed and on steroids. I had bacterial meningitis and a stroke in July. My niece has shingles and started acyclovir on Monday. I am supposed to go to her home for thanksgiving dinner today. Would it be prudent to stay home or is it OK to go?

I am sorry to hear all of this is going on today, as it is such a festive holiday. However, with that said, it would be in your best interests to stay home.

Firstly, you are immunosuppressed. Secondly, you are on steroids. We can leave the stroke out of this (I'm sorry that happened to you, but it is of no bearing to this).

It is unfortunate that these things happen during the holiday season, but your health is paramount right now. Stay home and have your immediate family stay with you. Make the best of it by having your own Thanksgiving dinner with your immediate family, i.e. husband/wife, child/children.
