    Smoking weight gains
I'm 19 years old. I would like to stop smoking cigarettes. I have been told that when someone quits you gain weight. I'm a little bit heavy set now and would not like to gain any weight. Do you really gain weight?

    Hi MLY -

I stopped a little over two months ago. They say our metabilism slows down. The first month, I did feel like I was blown up with air. My clothes were tighter and I just didn't feel the same. But one thing I was very careful about, I did not increase what I normally would eat and tried to exercise more.

A couple of weeks ago, I felt that bloatey feeling leave and feel like my old self again. So, I would say, for me, the first month, I did feel heavier, but it does go away.

It is so worth quitting. Don't let the fear of additional pounds scare you.

I do feel so much better. I do hope you give it a try.

I wish you all the best :)
