    Smell from the shower drain...
    Hi,

Have been facing this bad smell from the shower drain for long.. and even the builder is not able to identify the issue...

... I don't see any P Trap or U / S trap in these... I am not a techie in this.. so pardon me if I use some jargon incorrectly...

They came and said they have fixed a cap inside the drain to prevent the smell.. but it did not work... the water level is good 1 feet below in the drain... am not able to figure out this... would need help from some good technical guy... please...

    Regards
    Biju

Let's check and see. Remove the strainer and poke a stick down the pipe. If it comes back with a few inches of water on it you are trapped. Let me know if it comes back dry.

    Can you describe this "cap"?
Most bad smells from tubs, lavatories and showers come from rotting hair and grease from soap.
How I address this is to first snake and clean the drain line, Next I pour a half gallon of bleach down the drain and let it set for a few hours. Did your plumbers do any of this?> Back to you, Tom

There is one more place where the soapy water can stick and cause bad smell. In my case, I cleaned the drain. No use. Water was going out fine. Finally I found this place where the rubber inserts holds the shower wall glasses in the metal frame. One of them have small hole to drain the water from the glass. This little hole was clogged. Cleaned it and the smell went away.
