Troy Bilt Bronco
Have a 2009 Troy Bilt Bronco. Last year I noticed that it was getting hard to stop with the brakes. Now it won't stop at all in forward or reverse. It's not the brakes, adjusted them till they would smoke wile driving the mower. Its hard to pull the transmission shifter out of forward or reverse. You can stop the engine wile in gear and yank the shifter to neutral and you'll have to rock the mower back and forward till it will roll. Any ideas what's going on?

You have the brakes adjusted too much which causes that binding when trying to shift out of forward or reverse because the brakes are putting pressure on the shift collar. Ideally the brakes should engage as the belt tension is relieved which prevents binding. What you have is the two pins that engage the brakes are rusted/corroded and stuck in their carrier. Loosen the 1/2" nut the tightens the brakes, disconnect the brake arm and spring, remove the 3/8" bolts that hold the brake assembly to the transaxle (front and back), knock the pins out and clean them with a wire brush or sandpaper. Then lightly grease them (or use anti-seize compound) and reassemble. Adjust by setting the machine to roll in neutral and brakes off and the hold when park brake locked. On some newer machines a replacement brake assembly is called for as it does not come apart to perform what was described above. In that case it is usually Part #661-0006 Peace, Clarke |

Looking for a diagram of a Super Bronco deck. Had to replace a tension spring but don't think is in the correct place. The diagram in the manual isn't too clear on the springs placement. The belt is very loose and doesn't have the cutting power it used to.
