Hi I live in upstate NY. I am raising my 7 yr old granddaughter. My granddaughter hasn't seen her mother in over a month. How long is abandonment in upstate NY?

Does not work like that. It appears the mother made good arrangements for daughter, so no real criminal issue.

The issue will be civil and will involve you proving that not only the mother is not caring for her child, but child would be better with you.
This will really require an attorney, since mother will be served and have right to defend. It will be a court battle, unless mother will just agree to give children

Abandonment is leaving a child without adult supervision.

If you want to get guardianship or custody of your grandchild, then you file a petition in your local family court.
