w2 not sufficient for proof of income
Our refund has been delayed for over two months. Just this week someone from the IRS called asking for verification of income from the company on company letterhead. The IRS contacted the company and the information was faxed to the IRS. Why isn't the w2 enough? I hope there is a light at the end of this long tunnel.

W2 did not match what company reported originally? IRS lost the W2 and did not want to admit it.
Yours was one of those lucky returns to get looked over carefully, and the IRS is a government agency, so common sense has no bearing

I was even asked to fax the return. When I said I could not afford $6 a page she said she would get it from somewhere, I can't remember. I asked if I took the return to the IRS office an hour away would it speed things up, she said no. Huh? We cannot afford an attorney so I'm just hoping it all gets worked out.

We have a expert on here Atlanta Tax Expert, who knows the ends and out of the system, so if he does not jump on here in a couple days, look him up on a member search and send him a private message ( this is a buy time of the year for him of course)

This just doesn't sound right. The IRS does not just pick up the phone and call someone. They send a letter. They like to have documentation if they need more information. This just isn't the type of information that the IRS would ask for over the phone. It almost sounds like someone is trying to get your personal information. (Maybe for identity theft) This is just sending off red flags everywhere to me.
If you are curious about where you refund is go to Internal Revenue Service.
On the first page of the web site for individuals there is a place that says, "Where is my refund?" Click there and it will walk you through the rest. You will need you social security number, filing status, and the exact amount of your refund. It will give you the status of your refund.

I should have mentioned that I contacted the IRS advocacy because of hardship. The proof of income was requested by them.
I've checked the "where's my refund" link several times

First, WHERE does you go to have a fax done that charges $6 per page? Any Office Depot, Staples or Office Max will do it for about $1 per page.
Second, the whole situation sounds like the W-2 you provided does not match the information the company provided.

Hello. I had hoped you would stumble on my post.
The Office Max close to my home charged $6 for two pages long distance fax.
I have a IRS advocate, but I doesn't seem to speeding up the process. The next time I am to hear from the advocate is 4/26. I would like to know exactly what is going on, but I am not privy to this at this time. Would I be able to contact you via email if necessary?

Yes, my email address is below. However, for me to contact the IRS and discuss your issue will require a Power of Attroney.
