I have a HB Andover Indoor/Outdoor fan that I want to install on the porch and use primarily as a light. This fan comes with a wall-mount remote. The existing switch is inside and in a box with 2 other switches and I don't want to alter that. Can I leave the old switch in tact and buy a battery-operated remote to control the fan? If so, could I use the existing switch to control the light and the new remote to control the settings? In other words, if I set the fan (with remote) to light on and fan off (for example) then use the old switch to turn off the light, will the fan "remember" these settings and come back on with the same settings (light only)?

The fan has no chains so I must use some kind of remote to control it. I really like the style of this fan and do not want to return it. Installing the included wall mount remote is not an option.

Yes, you will have to match the new remote to the frequency of the fan using the dip switches. It might take some trial and error.

Some remote fans do, some do not have a "memory". I would assume it does not unless you try it and discover otherwise.

Why is it not an option? I actually think that's your best option. Wall mounted remotes are much more reliable than handheld ones, and you won't have to worry about memory. It wires in place of the old switch with no additional wiring.

I am going to leach on to this question since I am still dealing with this issue. I found that Hunter's wall control has 4 dip switches and my fan has five. Is there some kind of correlation?

Also, the wall switch kit is not for use with a fluorescent; however, I am not planning to use the controller from wall switch. I am hoping to just leave the controller for the original remote in place on the fan. Since the original does not provide for dimming, will I be OK?

I have no idea how the 4-5 dip switches will match up, or if they will at all.

As long as you use a receiver that is OK for fluorescent it doesn't matter what controller you use.
