    Family Law about Arrears
I am trying to find out if someone can help me ? I have been paying my back child support for many of years now. I have it almost paid off and the lady there told me they did not charge me for court fees in 2007. As of June 30-2014 she tells me that a 5% court fee will be charged. What is it for and why did they wait that many years when it is about paid off. I have called them so many times and all I get is the run around, no one will tell me anything. They never send me anything in the mail either. I just want to know what the fees are for or do I need a lawyer? South Carolina is the state I pay.

Because you failed to pay on time, the court had to take action against you. That's the court fees you are being charged. So you will have to pay.

Only they, know why,, in some areas, if you pay though the court, there is an additional processing fee, each month, for the time and effort to receive your money, and then to deposit or mail it to the other person. ( which is only correct, since I do not want my tax money going to pay your child support expense)

Also, if you are late, and there may be other additional fees charged by the court.

Often these are not mentioned in divorce or support documents, they are merely normal and standard court costs
