Whirlpool Refrigerator model number GD5PHAXLB00 drain pan always overflowing
Our drain pan has started overflowing all the time. We empty it and it fills up and overflows again within the next day. It is on a whirlpool side by side gold energy star fridge and one of those non removable pans. It is supposed to evaporate on it's own but it is not. We have a garage under our kitchen and only noticed it when we saw water dripping from the floor under the fridge through to the garage floore. Has there been some kind of a recall on this?
    Thanks,
    Mccreel

About 5 years. It has been doing it for a while, it has just now made it through to drip through the floor. We have been hearing sounds but was not sure what it was. No water had puddled out the front. So I guess it had been seeping under our floor and sub floor until it dripped through.

You can check Whirlpool's website to see if there is a recall or at least a number to call to inquire if there has been a recall. Since it's 5 yrs old, your one year full warranty is expired but if less than 5 yrs old, you may have some coverage left on the 5 yrs comprressor limited warranty that would only cover the compressor not labor to repair it. It sounds like the fridge has a leak of freon or the stuff that is either actual freon or the R122 or R132 type of freon that's sort of new being required by the Govt. Reason I stated it might be a freon leak is that when a sealed unit is low on freon, it sometimes causes condensation to form and that water usually then turns to ice which later melts when the fridge cycles back off as it is supposed to do. First, I would try to see if the coils are freezing, take off the plastic panel at the front bottom of the fridge, take a flashlight and look at the coils, see if they are covererd with ice, you might not see them by looking just once, so ck periodically, notice if the fridge is running more often than usual. If you see ice or can't figure it out, it looks like you need an experienced technician to visit. One thing I will say about your fridge's manufacturer... I consider them one of the best... good luck.

Condensation should not fill the pan up every day. You must have a water leak.
If you have an ice maker or cold water tap, make sure that your water lines are not leaking. The plastic lines can go bad. The leak may be between the ice maker and solenoid valve. The fact that you do not have water all over the place seems to point to a leak that is being turned of and on.
