Goodman heating and air conditioning system
I have a 2 ear old goodman heating and a/c system. They are 2 1/2 years old. The unit inside is in a closet in the hall and sits on a shelf about 18 inches off the floor. There is a hole in the shelf towards the back. I live in CA and its very hot here. Our house is newly rebuilt due to a major fire and sits on a cement foundation. Starting a few weeks ago, the carpet in front of the closet where the unit is housed started being wet when the a/c was used. Each day the problem got worse and worse, until we had sopping wet floor and carpet. There is water coming from underneath as far as I can tell. The water comes out of the big square hole on the bottom of the shelf built to house the unit. What could it be that is leaking? I don't have much money for repairs, so if you can think of any thing to check, I'd really appreciate it. Sincerely Robin

There should be an outside drain pipe from the condensate tray. Do you see any water coming out when the AC is running? If not, the drain is probably plugged. In some cases, mud wasps and paper wasps build nests in them blocking the drain water. Check that first and get back to us. Also check to see if the front of the A coil plenum can be removed. If so, you should be able to see why the water is leaking inside.

When air is cooled the humidity in the air is converted to water. When the air in the house is blown across the evaporator coils (the unit in the closet) moisture is created and runs down the fins of the coil and accumulates in a pan below the coil. There is a tube or pipe from the pan that takes the water to either the outside or to a drain.
    That pipe is blocked.
As air passes through the coils dust also accumulates, which combined with the moisture often blocks the condensation drainage pipes. Usually fairly easy to clear.
