Tax exemption - Post doc research trainee from India
Hello, I have a question regarding federal tax exemption. I am from India and I got a job offer as post doc research trainee in NY. I would like to know whether I fall under tax exemption for the first 2 years according to India-US treaty. In that case, what I need to do?

Additionally if there is any more suggestion, I am happy to hear from you.

    Thanks in advance

Here is the treaty to which, I believe, you refer. The specific exemption would be in Article 22.

you might want to contact the IRS to find out if any sort of informational return is required, but I doubt it. Consult a tax accountant to be sure.
