    Hot/cold water
We live in a house with 5 apartments. Our hot water is Gas heated. Upon getting in a shower, we get the temp we want but within a minute or two the water goes ICE cold!! It does that for about 30 seconds then returns to normal. Could it be our shower head? We have a double, one handheld and one fixed. Or is it a problem with the water heater? It only seems to do this in the shower. I need to know if we should call our LL or just change out the shower head. Thank you

Does each unit have its own water heater or are all of you on a main unit servicing the entire building? Any idea of the distance from the heater to your shower? Does the temp fluctuation occur at other faucets or tubs? I know, lots of question with no answer but I'm building a picture in my little head.

Do you have an anti scald valve? They are required in many applications now. They mix cold water into the hot to limit the highest temperature to perhaps 120 degrees. Yours could be malfunctioning.

We live on the second floor and the heater is in the basement. We are all on the same heater I believe. But this problem is new. The LL had someone messing with the hot water line about 2 weeks ago. We had NO water coming out of the hot water taps, then when they were finished we had our water back. Since then, this has been a problem. It is only in our shower. None of our other taps do this. It's frustrating, getting blasted with ice cold water, then boiling hot water! Thanks!

Maybe this will help. When our hot water goes 'out' I hear a noise like when someone turns on a fill valve then shuts it off abruptly. It is during this time that we lose our hot water. That started after that person messed with the plumbing as well.

I think you have pretty much solved the mystery, your LL doesn't hire real plumbers. I would be complaining to LL and I'll bet other tenants will have problems too unless the "plumber" on worked on your supply.

Ballengerb1, LOL how right you are!! He has 'handymen' who come in to take care of everything Including our furnace, which went out 6x this heating season alone!
    Thank you
