    If the student is an INTERNATIONAL student, you must ask about his/her visa status and WHEN HE/she arrived in country.

    If the visa status is J-1 or F-1 and they arrive in country in 2010 or later, then they are EXEMPT from FICA (Social Security and Medicare) taxes as a matter of U.S. Tax law.
