My 9 yr old son has rash like bumps covering his limbs and torso. They do not appear to be bug bites. He says they are itchy. I've tried benadryl, hydrocortisone cream and calamine lotion. What do you think it is?

Are they spreading? Has a doctor looked at them? Chickenpox? Hives?

They are completely covering his limbs and torso. No doctor visit yet. He hasn't had a fever and there are no pustules. Just raised rash like bumps. They are not red. I wish I could upload a picture. I have a really good one of His stomach and his arm.

If he's got hives covering that much of his body... get him to the doctor right now... or the emergency room if you must.

Hives are indicative of an allergic reaction... extensive ammounts of hives are indicative of a possible reaction that's dangerously close to going systemic... which could possibly suddenly turn life threatening.

Speaking as someone who has had that happen....more than once....its not something to treat casually.

Did yours look like the picture of his arm that I posted? Aren't hives usually red?

We can't diagnose this over the internet and sitting here asking questions when you should be taking him to the doctor is not only silly, but could possibly be harmful. There is NO WAY we can know what he has...all your home remedies have done nothing...doesn't this worry you at all?

Before you bash on someone, get details. I said he had not YET seen a doctor. Not that I had not already called and scheduled an appointment for today. Don't be an . I simply asked a question to try to get answers to ease my mind a little during the wait time.

Has he eaten anything different during the past day or so? Have you changed laundry detergents or bar soaps from the usual? Is he taking any new meds/antibiotics? I am not usually allergic to anything but was given an antibiotic that drove me to want to rip off my skin for the itchiness. Like odinn7 said, we just can't diagnose. The doctor will ask lots more questions and should be able to pin down what this is. Please let us know when you find out!

I'm thinking it's that I changed from Tide to Gain. The doctor said hives but has referred us to see an allergy doctor for further testing.

Which isn't really unusual, at least around my house growing up. My mom would only use Tide because anything else would cause either myself or one of my siblings to break out in a rash. Going to a allgerist and getting a full test done will be good for him in the future.

Please also realize that you CANNOT provide use with enough information to form anything more than a guess and that none of us are medically train or certified to give you any answer beyond, "You should go get this checked out." I know this is frustrating but if you think about it, if you're concerned enough that you've asked the question here, than chances are it is something that should be taken care of by a medical professional. I know you said, "yet", but really all you will be doing is either getting possible dangerous and inaccurate information or freaked out by the possibilities of what it could be. I understand how you might be questioning, but the only real people you should be asking are your doctors. It is just better in the long run.
