If I am homeless in Michigan do I still have to pay child support?
I'm working in Michigan and paying child support. But my lease is coming up and I don't make enough to afford another place. I will have to live on the street or in some shelter, but if that happens I will lose my car, then lose my job.

Yes, you will still be responsible for child support in Michigan. If you don't pay, you will go into arrears. Friend of the Court could also have you arrested. Sorry for your predicament.

Trade work for room &/or board? Check Craigslist for people looking for odd jobs or? If you have a legitimate reason, you could file for a modification of support... but I would have a really good reason to not be working in order to make enough to meet your obligations. Are you disabled? If not, get a second (or third) job? Work odd jobs... it IS the land of opportunity!

As noted you need to file for a modification of your support order. If financial setbacks change your income, you may be able to get support reduced. But until you do, you need to pay what the court has ordered. You have a job so that's a good thing. I'm sure you can find some housing that you can afford. A rooming house maybe. You need to work with local agencies to find something.

Do you mean that your landlord is refusing to re-new the lease?

You may need roomates. And perhaps a second job. Scott is right... File for modification of your child support. You can do this for yourself if you can't afford a lawyer.
