    Arson
Hello. I was charged with arson at the end of 2004 in Ontario. It was a far streach to call what I did arson (I burnt a poster while pissed drunk on the wall of a buliding and that's all that burnt) but nonetheless that's what they gave me. I tried to have it sorted out of court quickly, as was leaving the country to live elsewhere. It wasn't resolved and in that I was given a bench warrant of 100km radius. The warrant still stands and I still live over seas. Will this fall under the statute of limitations, and if I come back to Canada after 5 years will the charge disappear into thin air (so to say). Thanks for your time, I'd love to buy you lunch for your expertise:) Cheers

No, it does not expire. There is no SOL on warrants, if you had never been charged, with a crime, then the SOL is in effect. But the minute you are charged, the SOL stops.

So the warrant will be there 10 year, 15 years and longer until you are either arrested for it, or you take care of it.

Arson was added to the Part One Index Crimes in the Uniform Crime Reporting Program. Is arson serious enough to be in this category, along with murder and rape? Are there other reasons it should or should not be a Part One Index Crime?
