    Leaking outdoor shutoff valve help
    I have a an outdoor shutoff valve that's leaking and am wondering do I have to fix it or is it the water company's responsibility? It's one of the valves on the line that's coming into the house. Thanks!

    After the meter is your responsibility unless you are in a condo and then maybe the HOA takes care of it. Where is it leaking, can you post a picture?

    As Brian says, anything off the meter is on you. Now let's talk about fixing it. This is the house shut off isn't it? These valves are simple to work on. We just need more information. Is it leaking from the bonnet packing nut under the handle? From another place? Get back to us and we will give you a solution. Back to you, Tom

    It looks like it's the backflow preventer that's leaking? It looks like it's coming from under the top of it and the sides.Attachment 45879

    If it is the Febco backflow preventer (goes to sprinkler system) itself leaking then your local plumbing supply house should have a febco backflow preventer repair kit (springs and washers) and you should be able to repair this pretty easily. However, check the entire valve up real close as these valves are famous for cracking at the shutoffs themselves...inspect real well!

    If you confirm it is the febco valve itself get the febco number on top of the cap and bring that with you as there are different sizes and repair kits...;) These repair kits can also be found online and shipped directly to you...see image. There are "bonnet repair kits (about $20.00) and washer repair kits
